Male fertility directly or indirectly revolves around the health and motility of sperms. An estimated 15 to 20 percent of couples worldwide are affected by infertility. Of those, approximately 30–40 percent is infertile due to male factors, including sperm motility. Another 20 percent are infertile due to a combination of male and female factors. Some men have low sperm motility as a genetic cause, while others may have an undiagnosed medical condition.

Several factors can influence male fertility, sperm count, and sperm motility, with some of the most common including:

  • Pre-existing genetic conditions
  • Abuse of alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and other recreational drugs
  • Groin injury or damage to the testicles and surrounding area
  • A personal sexual history of STIs or urinary tract infections
  • Hormonal imbalances, predominantly in the form of low testosterone
  • Erectile dysfunction or ejaculatory issues

Here are a few ways by which you can increase your sperm count to boost your infertility:

1. Zinc Can Increases Sperm Count.

Zinc is an essential mineral for complimenting the increase of sperm count. In animals foods such as meat, fish, eggs and shellfish it is found in high amounts. Adequate zinc intake appears to be one of the cornerstones of male fertility. Observational studies show that low zinc status or deficiency is associated with low testosterone levels, poor sperm quality and an increased risk of male infertility. Zinc supplements also help in this cause. Furthermore, zinc supplements may reduce the decrease in testosterone levels that are associated with excessive amounts of high-intensity exercise. Controlled trials need to confirm these observational findings.

2. Radiation And Temperature May Adversely Affect Your Sperm Count

Sperm production requires a temperature that is lower than our core body temperature this is the reason why testicles are outside of the body. Ditch the skinny jeans, jockeys and hot tubs, and choose boxers and loose pants to keep your swimmers cool and active. Avoid tight-fitting underwear, hot tubs and baths or holding laptop computer on your lap. Try to sleep without underwear and change your clothes after a sweaty workout or sun exposure. Radiations from laptops, televisions, and our cell phones carry electromagnetic energy (think: Wi-Fi signal) and could potentially damage a guy’s sperm production in more serious ways. Try to turn off technology for at least an hour a day. Carrying your cell in your pocket isn’t recommended either.

3. Exercise Aids in Higher Sperm Concentration

The right balance of exercise can do wonders for your swimmers. Test your sperm and then choose an exercise program. Maintain it for one month and then again take a test. Your results will have improved. Not only is hitting the gym a few times a week is great for overall health, but it can also improve the sperm count. Men who participate in the moderate-to-vigorous activity for at least 15 hours a week had 73 per cent higher sperm concentration than men who moved less than five hours a week. The couch potatoes who watch more than twenty hours of TV per week have 44 percent lower sperm concentration than men who don't watch anything. Any exercise that breaks a sweat is great and if you add resistance training, the results are even better. Lifting weights can increase testosterone levels and, a big bonus here, aid in higher sperm concentration.

4. Use Antioxidants For Sperm Growth

Antioxidants help in reducing the number of free radicals in the body. These free radicals can cause inflammation, which in turn can lead to several diseases and problems. Increasing the number of antioxidant foods in your diet can help increase the sperm count, say several studies

5. Both Smoking And Alcohol Decrease Sperm Life

Decreased sperm count can be directly correlated to the consumption of drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. Even excessive alcohol consumption lowers the testosterone levels, also the sperm quality and quantity in men. It can even cause low libido and impotency. Smoking reduces sperm count consistently. A study conducted in 2016 reviewed the result of 20 other studies including 6,000 people and observed that men who smoke consistently have a reduced sperm count.

6. Vitamin C Drastically Improves Sperm Quality

Many male fertility supplements can help to assuage the problem in a sizable population of men facing issues related to their fertility, often drastically improving sperm count and sperm motility as a result. Vitamin C has been shown to significantly increase both the motility and the overall sperm presence within the semen. The same study provided evidence that vitamin C supplements drastically reduced the number of deformed sperm present in tested samples. Many experts chalk this increase up to the antioxidant – or anti-inflammatory – properties of these supplements. Citrus fruits are great antioxidants and great sources of vitamin c. These fruits are an easy day to day snack and just having one a day can help make you feel great and improve male fertility.

7. Herbs Are Beneficial For Male Fertility

Fenugreek has a proven record of significantly improving sperm health and quality. It is a herb in the wild but the most common, cheapest and convenient way is to take it as a supplement in your existing diet. Ashwagandha (Indian ginseng) has been used in traditional medicines as a remedy for several forms of sexual dysfunction. Studies have found that 46 men with low sperm saw a 167 percent increase in sperm count when they took 675 milligrams (mg) of ashwagandha daily for 90 days.

With all the above ways it’s equally important to see a doctor if you have been unable to conceive a child after a year of regular, unprotected intercourse or if you have erection or ejaculation problems, low sex drive, or other problems with sexual function.
