Hair/Skin Treatments in India

Hair Treatment

Hair treatment is managing problems like:

  • Hair Loss
  • Dryness
  • Dandruff
  • Frizziness
  • Split Ends
  • Oily/Greasy Hair
  • Dullness
  • Heat Damage
  • Colour Damage
  • Gray Hair

These problems can be caused by a variety of reasons: lifestyle, dietary habits, the products used and natural hair type. One of the easiest and common way of treating these problems is prescribing products. Hair treatment in India has diversified and updated a lot in recent years due to demand for faster, effective and more affordable treatments. Products like hair masks, shampoos and conditioners, serums, and hair oils are designed to:

  • Add moisture
  • Take away excess oils
  • Combat dandruff and lice
  • Grow hair faster

Dermatologists and Trichologists are consulted together for hair and scalp issues. A dermatologist is trained for evaluating and managing patients in benign and malignant disorders of the skin, hair, nails and adjacent mucous membranes. Trichology, by definition, is a discipline which focuses solely on the hair and scalp.

So a dermatologist mainly looks at the skin and also the considerable ailments which also include hair. Whereas a trichologist is specialised for scalp and hair. Most of the above problems will be solved through products only. Hair loss and hair thinning have some other considerate medical processes too. At first, they are also treated with products but due to no response or less response, more serious medical treatment are suggested.

Hair Fall and Hair Thinning

Hair volume and thickness tends to decrease as age increases, in current times it is more frequent than ever. Thinning hair is mostly because of diet, nutrient deficiencies or hereditary hair loss. They are seldom linked with overall health concerns, but they do affect people's mental health and self-esteem.

Based on general check-up your dermatologist or trichologist might suggest you:

  • A blood test to uncover deficiencies or any other medical conditions related to hair loss.
  • A pull test to determine the stage of the shedding process, the doctor will simply pull several dozens of hair to see how many come out.
  • A scalp biopsy, the doctor will scrape samples from the skin of the scalp or from a few hairs plucked, will examine the roots of hairs. This will give a surety whether an infection is causing hair loss or not.
  • Light microscopy, in this the doctor uses a special instrument to study those hairs which are trimmed at their bases, it helps uncover possible disorders of the hair shaft.
  • After this doctor prescribes another product or medications. Doctors try to treat the patient with simple medical treatments only. If test results are bad, then doctors straightaway will just a complex treatment like Hair Transplant or Laser Therapy.

Hair Transplant

One of the most common hair treatments is hair transplant in India. Male-pattern baldness (in men), genetic women pattern hair loss (in women), lost hairs due to burning or scalp injury or had hair loss recently, only people with these problems shall opt for hair transplant. In today’s time hair transplant has two main methods:

1. Hair Grafting or Strip Harvesting or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT)

The first step is to extract a portion of the hair-bearing scalp from the back of the head. Now either the whole strip (strip harvesting) or the small segments are made from the removed scalp (grafts), these segments contain varying amount of hairs.

Then this segment is transplanted into the balding area (hair grafting), resultant hairs are subtly thick but natural. 50 or more hair-bearing segments are usually transplanted in each session. Meanwhile, the region from the back of the head is closed with stitches and it gets covered from the surrounding hair.

2. Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

In FUT procedure hair from donor site is excised individually, using a 0.8mm to 1mm ‘punch’. The procedure can be carried out manually or using a motorized surgical tool.

Following FUE there will be a series of tiny dot scars on the scalp, but these are so small as to be scarcely noticeable. These are scarless and quick procedures where recovery time is also low. A single cell or a pack of not more than four is extracted.

Currently, doctors, as well as patients, prefer one of these two methods only. Rest all methods are considered to be outdated. A robotic method is also in development for FUE to automate the process. FUT results in stitches and 10-14 days of recovery time, whereas FUE is a one day process and will leave small unnoticeable dots at donor sites.

The chance of hair growth in donor site is better in FUT than FUE. In FUE even at the balding area hair growth will be limited to number 1 or 2 at max.

Scalp Reduction

This process is used when baldness attacks at the top or back of the head, the frontal hairline isn't affected by it. In this, non-hair-bearing skin is removed from the balding area. This is done under the influence of anaesthetic injections.

Doctors then loosen up the hair-bearing skin around this area. As the skin is loosened, it is then stretched so that the balding sections are covered under it, with the help of stitches it is stitched. Scalp reduction can decrease as much as half of the bald area. This procedure may also be done along with hair grafting.

Low-Level Laser Therapy Treatment

Currently, the most popular and the latest approach for hair growth is laser therapy, a low level of laser light is applied to the scalp for the growth of new hair follicles. This is often done at a therapy center and seldom at home. The specific type of laser therapy, which is being applied for stimulating hair growth, is commonly known as Low-Level Laser Therapy or LLLT. It is considered to be the best for hereditary hair loss.

The energy of hair molecules instantaneously increases as they start absorbing the specific wavelength of light. People whose hair problems are caused by metabolic, inherited, autoimmune, or infectious causes, can take the help of LTT. Several sessions are required for actual benefit.

Laser Hair Reduction Therapy

A medical procedure for the removal of unwanted hair by a concentrated beam of light (laser), the laser emits the light which is absorbed by the pigment (melanin) in the hair. Light energy is turned into heat. This results in damaged hair follicles, so hair growth is now damaged or delayed.

Unwanted hair can be treated in nearly any area except the eyelid or surrounding area. Still, the common places are legs, armpits, upper lip, chin and the bikini line.

Laser hair removal only delays hair growth for long periods, and it doesn't result in permanent hair removal. Many laser hair removal treatments are needed for initial hair removal. In some cases, maintenance treatments might be needed as well. People with light skin and dark hair experience effects of laser hair removal more accurately and quickly.

Skin Treatment

Like any other organ, the skin is also an organ in our body. It is the largest organ of our body and its function is to protect us. For our skin to protect us we have to keep maintaining it's quality. Good skincare in early life results in lesser future skin problems like wrinkles and even skin cancer. Apart from this a good skin also helps in restoring and maintaining mental peace, self-confidence and self-respect.

There are many different types of skin problems from which we have to protect our skin or take fast action against them. Skin can have many types of problems, but among the most crucial ones is the cosmetic problems. Some of the most common cosmetic issues are acne scars, age spots, wrinkles, and sagging skin. For this, some of the most common skin treatments in India are laser treatments for laser rejuvenation and laser resurfacing, microdermabrasion, botox (botulinum toxins), dermal fillers, chemical peels among others.

Microdermabrasion

It is for the removal of age spots and light acne scars. This is the most common procedure for wrinkle treatments as it is performed quickly with the help of a facial esthetics office. The doctor will use a handheld instrument to spray small crystals onto the surface of the skin. The crystals exfoliate the skin layers, and in between the suction simultaneously removes the crystals and dead skin cells. More than one microdermabrasion session might be needed for effect.

Chemical Peels

Chemexfoliation or derma-peeling treatments are cosmetic treatments done on the face. They are used as an anti-ageing solution to rejuvenate the skin. Chemical peels correct the irregularities like fine lines and colour in the texture of the skin. These peels have varying strengths, characterized by the different kinds of acids used in their applied chemical solution.

Laser Resurfacing

This process is for the removal of damaged outer layers of the skin. The process consists of stimulating the production of collagen and new skin cells, which are the underlying layers of the skin. Laser resurfacing is now used to reduce or overcome wrinkles and fine lines on the face and neck.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation This is an advanced wrinkle removal treatment which uses infrared light to tighten the skin without surgery. The laser light delivers heat to the layers which are beneath the skin’s surface. This results in the stimulation of collagen production and makes the skin look tighter. Many patients consider the procedure as a good option to the traditional facelift, it requires no anaesthesia, no scalpel, and no downtime

Acne Blue Light Therapy

This works by targeting the bacteria that produce acne. This is a complex acne treatment method and is usually prescribed when other facial skincare treatment doesn't respond. This is administered over a span of several weeks. Acne blue light therapy seldom causes side effects and does not damage the skin.

Thermage

A non-exfoliating facial rejuvenation technique intended to tighten and improve the shapes of the face and neck. These aesthetic improvements are performed with a radiofrequency device that is passed over face, with the tip in contact with the skin’s surface.

The new collagen development is stimulated by heating the deep layers of skin from controlled radio waves. The result is tighter and often smoother skin. Thermage can treat all skin types and requires no downtime, unlike laser treatments. The benefits of the procedure are often immediately apparent and long-lasting.
